Clinic
Consultations
Private consultations with Mr Anthony Bates are available for men with suspected or confirmed prostate cancer, raised PSA, abnormal MRI findings, biopsy results, or those considering treatment options including robotic prostate surgery.
The aim of the consultation is simple: to give you a clear understanding of your diagnosis, your level of risk, and the most appropriate next steps.
Where consultations take place
Most consultations are held in Leicester, where Mr Bates’ main clinical practice is based.
Surgery is performed at Leicester General Hospital and at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, depending on the patient’s pathway, clinical requirements and agreed treatment plan.
Consultations at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital can also be arranged, usually by prior agreement.
Remote consultations
Remote consultations are available by secure video link where appropriate.
These appointments usually last between 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the case and the questions that need to be covered.
A remote consultation may be suitable if you would like to discuss:
- A raised PSA
- MRI findings
- Prostate biopsy results
- A new prostate cancer diagnosis
- Active surveillance
- Robotic prostatectomy
- A second opinion
- Recovery after prostate cancer treatment
Remote appointments can be especially useful for patients who live outside Leicester or Cambridge, or who want an initial discussion before arranging a face-to-face appointment.
What to bring or provide
To get the most from your consultation, it is helpful to provide any relevant information in advance, including:
- PSA blood test results
- MRI report and images, if available
- Prostate biopsy report
- Clinic letters
- Current medication list
- Details of previous prostate or urinary treatments
- Any questions you or your family would like to discuss
If you do not have all of this information, that is not a problem. The consultation can still be used to clarify what is missing and what may be needed next.
What will be discussed
During the consultation, Mr Bates will review your history, investigations and current concerns. He will explain the findings in plain language and discuss the realistic options available.
This may include further testing, active surveillance, robotic prostate surgery, radiotherapy, focal therapy in selected cases (and referral for additional specialist input).
The purpose is not to rush a decision. It is to make sure you understand the facts, the risks and the likely consequences of each option.
Length of appointment
Consultation length depends on the complexity of the case.
Straightforward reviews may take around 20 minutes. More detailed consultations, second opinions or discussions about surgery may take up to 60 minutes.
The important thing is that there is enough time to explain the situation properly and answer the questions that matter.
Booking a consultation
To arrange a consultation, please contact the practice with a brief summary of your situation and any relevant reports if available.
If your case is urgent, please make this clear when enquiring.
